He said that the problem lies with debris which was gradually being cleared. “27 people alive, 11 dead, 153 missing. Out of 153, 40-50 are stuck in tunnel. There is a possibility of remaining people being washed away in Uttarakhand,” Pradhan said.
Earlier today, Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat said that around 203 people were missing including 11 dead bodies recovered as of now. He said the government was not aware of a subsidiary company’s project Tapovan till Sunday. “We are estimating that 35 people are stuck in another tunnel. Rescue operation is underway,” he said

The breaching if glacier sheet triggered a massive flood in Dhauli Ganga, Rishi Ganga and Alaknanda rivers. Two power projects — NTPC’s Tapovan-Vishnugad hydel project and the Rishi Ganga Hydel Project — were extensively damaged with a number of labourers trapped in tunnels as the waters came rushing in.
Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar today said that there was no need to spread panic. “The glacier burst yesterday, boulders and debris followed which washed away the Raini power project causing a massive impact on Tapovan. All of this happened yesterday. 32 people from first and 121 people are missing from the second project. Out of these, 10 bodies have been recovered so far – 3 from Tapovan and 7 in the route to Karnprayag. 12 people rescued from the smaller tunnel in Tapovan yesterday. Efforts are underway to open the bigger tunnel. Debris are being removed from it,” he said.

The ITBP has intensified search operation at the second tunnel. Giving updates, ITBP spokesperson Vivek Pandey said that around 30 people are trapped in the second tunnel. Around 300 ITBP jawans are deployed to clear the tunnel. “Local administration says that around 170 people are missing,” Pandey said. ITBP rescued 12 people from a tunnel on Sunday. “These 30 are trapped in a different tunnel. Rescue operation is underway in different areas. More teams will be sent there if it is required, we are focussing on rescuing people from the tunnel first,” the ITBP Spokesperson said.
